First Nations Engagement

We co-designed a comprehensive Indigenous Engagement Strategy with the Jirrbal People / Wabubbada Aboriginal Corporation, the Traditional Owners of the lands on which Kaban Green Power Hub is located. This committed Neoen to a range of benefit-sharing measures and ambitious Indigenous Participation targets.

Our project team were supported by Tagai Management Consultants, who helped us engage closely with the Jirrbal People and exceed our targets.

We could provide grants to make rooftop solar and batteries more affordable for community centres or for local conservation initiatives.

Addressing local skills development and adding value to educational opportunities

FIRST NATIONS INITIATIVES

We can allocate funds to local First Nations community for heritage conservation and self determined initiatives.

The 2024 Community Benefit Fund is accepting applications from 26 February to 10 April. Apply now !
Applications are completed online and administered by the Community Enterprise Foundation.
An independent community advisory committee reviews and decides on which applications will be allocated funds. The committee comprises of members from the local community, representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and local council as well as a representative from Neoen. If you are interested in applying to be an advisory committee member for future years of funding, please send us an email.
When your grant project is complete, we ask you to give us a report covering project highlights, photos and/or media, and a grant acquittal which details how you spent the funds.

ARTWORK

Neoen, under its Sustainability Framework, has a commitment to create an artwork on all its projects with a capacity of over 50 MW. The artwork aims to celebrate renewable energy and local culture.

One of the wind turbines at the Kaban Green Power Hub is proudly showcasing the artwork designed by Jirrbal artist, Wanirr Godden and Injinoo artist and curator, Teho Ropeyarn.

Titled “Jirrbal Country”, the artwork portrays the significance of Jirrbal Cultural Heritage; the animals, artefacts, patterns and cultural landscapes which are significant in obtaining Native Title; Gayambula (white cockatoo), Yuri (kangaroo), Mungguru (glider) and Gugulu (clapsticks) and Jawun (traditional basket weave).

The artists were guided in their creative process by Jirrbal Elders Marcelle Godden and Bradley Go Sam. Their design was painted onto the turbine by Daniel Wallwork and Jake Bordnaro-Hunter.

This project was initiated and developed by Neoen in collaboration with Wabubadda Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC, and with support from Tagai Management Consultants and OneSpace

Being a part of the Kaban wind farm and connecting with country has been a real privilege. I’m enjoying it.
