Neoen acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which the Bondo Wind Farm will harvest and store the energy of the wind. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

Economic Benefits

Regional Employment

We set a 30% local employment target during construction of the Kaban Green Power Hub and are extremely proud to have exceeded it & reach 49%. At the peak of construction, the project created over 250 direct jobs

This was achieved in collaboration with our project partners, Vestas, GHD, Tagai Management Consultants, Wabubadda Aboriginal Corporation as well as a range of local suppliers & contractors. Some of them included:

  • MPC Kinetic Civil
  • RJE Global
  • Powerlink
  • Mammoet
  • Rex Andrews
  • Kidner Contractors
  • REMO
  • Dempsey Crane Hire

We thank the Tablelands Regional Council, local businesses & the communities of Ravenshoe, Atherton and the Tumoulin region for their ongoing support.

The project is expected to create 5 permanent positions during its operational life and will continue to support farmers, who are our host landowners, by providing a diversified income stream.

Benefits for Queensland

The region’s wind profile is different to most of the wind farms in the National Electricity Market, contributing to stronger supply during peak periods. Kaban is forecast to reduce time-weighted electricity prices for Queensland with a total $461 million of savings to the consumer over the life of the project.

As the region in the tropics at the northern fringe of the network, it is susceptible to lightning storms causing widespread outages. The Powerlink network upgrade will strongly reduce this risk. The upgrade also means it less likely that all the transmission circuits will be impacted by cyclone conditions.

The network upgrade enables the connection of 150-180 MW additional generation in the region & Powerlink estimates creation of 97 regional jobs during the construction phase

This is a prime example of Queensland’s energy transformation delivering more renewable energy at lower cost, with more jobs and more opportunity for renewable investment in the state
